Values, Science, Democracy – Giessen Friends Summer Seminar with Heather Douglas

As part of the Friend Summer Seminar 2024, we are delighted to welcome Prof. Dr. Heather Douglas at Justus Liebig University Giessen. She is Professor of Philosophy at Michigan State University (MSU) and a member of the Socially Engaged Philosophers of Science (SEPOS). In the summer seminar we will focus on Douglas‘ work on values and science. Furthermore, we will discuss the functions and legitimation of science in pluralistic democratic societies.

The seminar is open for students, PhD-candidates and Post-Docs. It will take place from 03 June - 05 June 2024 (10 am – 6 pm) in Giessen, Germany.

In addition, there will be an open lecture entitled "On public trust in scientific expertise in pluralist democracies" on Tuesday, 04 June (6 pm) (Margarete-Bieber-Saal, Ludwigstraße 34, Gießen)
