We invite original contributions for a Synthese Special Issue on the philosophy of Catherine Z. Elgin. We call contributors' attention especially to Elgin's new book, True Enough, but will also welcome contributions on other aspects of her work. Topics may include: the nature and conditions of understanding, especially the relation between understanding and knowledge, understanding and explanation, or understanding and exemplification; holism in epistemology and the philosophy of science; the notion of representation in the arts and in the sciences; models, idealizations, and factivity; coherence and epistemic justification; and much more. We welcome submissions of individual papers critically discussing Elgin's work and/or exploring new ideas based on or connected to it. The special issue will also feature an article in which Elgin responds to the accepted papers.
