Law and Religion in Times of Crisis, Challenges and Change

Deadline: 01.12.2024

The recent years have undoubtedly been a time of crisis, challenges and change. This applies widely to discoveries and inventions in the field of social media and digitalization but also to the current global crises concerning the climate of our “common home”, pandemics, migration, poverty, conflicts around the world and the abuse scandal in Christian churches and denominations. The TCLP-Symposium 2025 will dedicate itself to these topics, shedding light on law and religion in times of crisis, challenges and change from a broad perspective whilst focusing on questions and answers that can particularly be found in religious and secular legal frameworks, legal philosophy and theology:

  • How do religious legal frameworks respond to these crises, to challenges and changes?
  • Are there specific responses in religious and secular law to contemporary crises and challenges? What do they look like?
  • What are ethical, legal philosophical and legal theological discussions concerning the current crises and challenges? How do they relate to frameworks in religious law and solutions?
  • Are there legal historical examples that can give normative answers to questions regarding crises, changes and challenges in the past? How do they respond to them?

Abstracts of contributions (max. 300 words) can be sent to symposium@tclp-project.com until 01st December 2024. Contributions from early career researchers and doctoral students are explicitly welcome.
